Academic Meeting with Dean, Associate Deans, and Faculties
for Term III, 2014-2015 Implementation
On August 1, 2015 Dr. Y Ratana, Vice President for Academic Affairs represented His Excellency Dr. KAO Kim Hour, Chairman of Board of Trustee, President and Founder of The University of Cambodia hosted the Academic Meeting with Dean, Associate Deans, and Directors and teaching faculties to give orientation about the implementation of Term III, 2014-2015 with successful outcome’s expectation. The meeting was conducted two days before the start of the term at Room 408, The University of Cambodia from 8:00 to 9:30 morning.
The main purpose of the meeting is to give instruction to academic management team and teaching faculties to be well prepared for effective implementation of Term III with successful outcome’s expectation; to give brief report on the outcome of assessment for Term I and Term II, 2014-2015; and to receive feedback from teaching faculties in order to improve the operation.
The agenda of the meeting was Responsibilities and Code of Conduct for Lecturer with the main focused on Teaching, Responsibility and Being a role model, Equity, Honesty, Assignments, Examinations, Relations with Students, Relations with others at the University of Cambodia, Relations with the community at large, Research Activities, and Performance Evaluations.
Before focusing on the main agenda, Dr. Y started with briefing the outcome of implementation of previous Term I&II, he stated that in general and overall outcome of lecturers’ performances on teaching techniques, ability to explain lesions and covered materials, techniques for getting students involved in class participation, activities and assignments and presentations and so on, students satisfied with these performances. The level of Means for satisfaction on the performances of lecturers was from 3.50 to 5.00. However, some students complained that they could not catch up with lecturers in some lessons and could not have done assignment as expected due to many assignments given by different lecturers in different classes, while some said that some teachers explained fast. In short, there were not negative and sensitive comments from the students.
Thereafter, Dr. Y began with the main agenda by going from one topic to another in details, Responsibilities and Code of Conduct for Lecturer with the main focused on Teaching, Responsibility and Being a role model, Equity, Honesty, Assignments, Examinations, Relations with Students, Relations with others at the University of Cambodia, Relations with the community at large, Research Activities, and Performance Evaluation. He strongly suggested teaching faculties to read and follow the related academic and operation policies; engage in research activities and activities hosted and invited by The University of Cambodia. More importantly he insisted them to follow strictly to implement the course syllabus, code of conduct and be role model for students.
The faculties suggested installing more fixed LCD projectors in some class-rooms to existing one due to the increase needs for teaching. In response to this suggestion, Dr. Y said that the University will purchase about ten more LCD and fix them into some classes in addition to existing one. However, he also asked the teaching faculties to use other means of teaching in order to make students to keep track with teaching and learning; promoting culture of reading and analysis the text are very important.
Last but not least, Dr. Y encouraged faculties to use facilities including libraries and asked them to encourage students to use libraries, to make libraries as active and lively atmosphere. He also asked faculties to remind students to use UC ID when they are in or on campus. UC will start to implement the using of ID more strictly from Term III to avoid any problems because every day there are visitors and people coming to visit the university for inquiries. Dr. Y hopes that with the full support and cooperation from faculty, the implementation of Term III will result in best outcome.
